i hope this came from someone who’s seen it bc this will include spoilers….dont know if theres much to spoil though like its a revenge movie, we all know who’s gonna die.  okay heres my in-depth personal criticism of Mandy:

– main complaint is how ridiculously easy it was to kill the black skulls…for a movie that hypes them up the whole way, nd claims its plot centres around vengeance, it was awfully drawn out only for the stream of kills before the end to be rather hasty nd anticlimactic 

– also really wanted to see/hear more of the black skulls, bc their really cool costume design is literally the only reason i was watching ksdbhfjd. nd their introductory scene had me hyped w their amazingly creepy voices nd the blood-drinking nd the homoeroticism! but then we dont see them again until they like, die, nd they dont even get any more speaking parts 😦 i appreciated the little backstory his weapon-keeper friend offered but…i was hoping to See more

– really the only scenes i enjoyed in this whole movie was the black skulls introduction nd the cult leader guy talking to the mirror. the rest of it was really just so boring nd the scenes were Very drawn out, you could tell it was trying so hard to be edgy nd artsy but it came across just…edgy, uninterestingly so. like the scene where she talks abt the starlings? not very believable (if her dad really hated them he’d have killed them himself, was just too ridiculous for me) and there for the shock value. unnecessary!

– minor complaints more so but: the decision to put like..chapter title cards? at certain parts felt very cheesy to me but oh well. nd the animated bits….typically dont like animated bits in real-life movies, nd this did nothing to sway me as they used a very boring borderline-realism comic book art style. if it had been a little more, idk surrealist? for a movie that wants so badly to be surreal… i might have praised it. really i just wanted to be shocked more, nd it really failed to do that for me…..like, maybe the death of his girlfriend makes him go a little bonkers nd he starts hallucinating. maybe he sees her charred body on the couch beside him. i like gruesome, i like (tasteful) shock! but their attempts at shock were just..drab to me. its sad bc i really wanted to like it. but they failed the black skulls, their most compelling characters, and that i cannot forgive
